Who’s at fault in the Gulf?

So there’s an oil leak in the Gulf and the Repellicans are beginning to try to blame the Obama Whitehouse for not doing more to fix the problem.

These are the same folks who’ve been lobbying heavily for off-shore drilling for years. These are the same folks that have been weakening the regulations in every industry that they could for even more years. These are the same folks who have systematically weakened the very organizations that are charged with regulating those industries.

Rand Paul says, “Accidents happen.” That’s right, they do; and if you have regulations and regulators who keep an eye on your accident prevention and resolution mechanisms, then when the accidents happen, the results aren’t catastrophic.

Unfortunately, BP was allowed to skip installing the latest blow-out prevention mechanisms.

I hardly think that’s the Whitehouse’s fault. At least, not THIS Whitehouse…

Rush Limbaugh Supports Al-Qaeda!

Rush Limbaugh, criticizing the president for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize finished up by saying, “I agree with the Taliban!” and “I’m on the same side with the Taliban.”

Unholy crap!

Therefore, since the Taliban support Al Qaeda, Rush Limbaugh by association, supports Al Qaeda.

Why is he still walking around? We’ve arrested folks for less lately – at least the Bush administration did.

It seems like there’s a double standard here, no?

It’s not like he asked for The Prize..

I find it disingenuous for the Repellicans to criticize the president for receiving the Nobel Peace Prize; it’s not as though he applied for it. Someone else thought it would be appropriate.

I’m sure I agree with President Obama when he said he wasn’t sure he deserved the award.

Of course that doesn’t stop the Repellicans from claiming weird and disturbing correlations. What else is new?

I wonder how they do it. How do the folks on the right get there followers to parrot obviously, ridiculously, patently false statements with a straight face? It must be brainwashing.

Ms. Perino had the temerity to suggest that the end of the week’s light rally on Wall Street should be credited to George W. Bush.

WTF?!

This from the same bunch that are trying to call this the Obama recession? Give me a freaking break!

Hell, GWB wasn’t even conscious of the problems on Wall Street. Everyone – not just liberals - said he was checked out from the beginning of August; that he was just mouthing words supplied to him; that he gave the whole thing up to the former chairman of Goldman Sachs (I mean, the Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson) to run.

I can’t believe that regular Americans would fall for that line.

As usual, the Repellican response to whatever the President says is “Oh he just wants to spend money.” Ridiculous coming from the party that has presided over the largest increases in spending and deficits the US has ever seen.

On the way home from work today, I heard another candidate for Repellican office whining that the Senate Minority should be listened to by the new administration.

The Obama administration has consulted the minority party ten times as much in the first two weeks as the Bush administration did in eight years.

Oh, by-the-way, just because someone says they’ll listen, doesn’t mean they’ll only listen to you, it means they’ll take it into account.

But the new administration should also take into account THE MAJORITY OF AMERICANS WHO ELECTED THEM. And so should the minority party.

“We don’t think spending is the way to go.” WHAT?

Doesn’t spending mean buying goods and services? Doesn’t that mean all the people who supply those goods and services are working? That all the people who support those people who are producing those goods and services are working?

Who are these guys and gals; this band of Repellicans?

I hope the American people are watching these guys.

Defining the Repellican..

I am moving my "Repellican" blog entries to this forum because I feel just a little guilty about using a technical blog site for societal observations..

As I put it on my technical blog (on January 21st):

My wife came up with a new name for the Obama naysayers: Repellicans.

These folks are not necessarily Republicans because there are a large number of Republicans who are openly supportive of the new president, including, but not limited to, Sen. Lindsay Graham of South Carolina.

Her first nominee for this 'party' is Chris Wallace of Fox News (what else?) who apparently was the first to call into question whether President Obama was legitimately sworn in yesterday.
(Note: I said, as soon as Chief Justice Roberts flubbed the lines, "The right wingers are gonna be all over that!" And, sadly, I was correct.)

I think I'd have to add the senator from Texas, John Cornyn who is holding back on the confirmation of the nominee for Attorney General, Eric Holder.

Since then I've received a nomination to include Anne Coulter, and I added John Boehner the minority leader of the House of Representatives.

I think it's pretty obvious at this point that the entire, elected membership of the Grand Old Party -- at least in the House -- are Repellicans, I am sorry to say. Seriously.

As this blog matures, we'll look at the ridiculousness of the discourse that is Washington, even after the Advent. Hopefully, I'll be able to point out the inconsistencies that the right side of the equation sites as evidence for their nonsense.

Don't worry, I'll be watching the other side of the aisle too. Honest.
